Create Private Cloud

A cloud provides the following benefits:

  • Self service - Administrators can delegate management and usage of the private cloud to self-service users. Quota can be adjusted as the user's needs change
  • Resource pooling - Resources such as storage and networking can be pooled together and offered to private cloud users
  • Opacity - Self-service users have no knowledge of the underlying physical hardware
  • Elasticity - Administrators can add resources to the private cloud to increase capacity
  • Optimisation - Usage of the underlying resources is continually optimised without affecting the overall private cloud experience

Clouds can be made up of:

  • Host groups that contain Hyper-V hosts, Vmware ESX hosts and Citrix XenServer hosts
  • A Vmware resource pool

To create a private cloud, you will specify the following settings:

  • Host Groups - Which Host Groups will make up the Private Cloud
