Upgrading Data Protection Manager

Microsoft System Center 2012 - Data Protection Manager can be upgraded from System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 with QFE4 where Data Protection Manager is installed on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

After the upgrade is completed all agents on protected computers must be upgraded. All protected computers must be running Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later.

The following hotfix must be installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975759

The basic steps that may be required to upgrade from DPM 2010 include:

  • Upgrading the database - The database must be upgraded
  • Removing library sharing - This feature is not supported in DPM 2012
  • Upgrading the disaster recovery information
  • Performing post upgrade steps
