Citrix Printing Series - Citrix Universal Print Server

The Citrix Universal Print Server extends XenApp and XenDesktop Universal Printing support to network printing. The Universal Print Server eliminates the need to install multiple printer drivers on XenApp and XenDesktop hosts and enabled more efficient use of Network bandwidth. The new Citrix Universal print driver supports direct network printing on Windows and non-Windows devices.

The Citrix Universal Print Server is made up of two components:

  • Client Component: The Client Component receives the EMF or XPS based print stream from the Universal Print Driver and forward it to the Universal Print Server
  • Server Component: The Server Component is installed on a Windows Print Server. This component retrieves the print data and forwards using the Citrix Universal Print Server Virtual Port Monitor to the Windows Printing Subsystem, which then transfers the document to the printer
