Red Alert 3 Vs StarCraft 2

I know it's a little early to start comparing two games that have only just been announced and yes I know StarCraft 2 has been around for a little longer. I'll start with what I know, and then I will make an educated guess.

The Announcements

The StarCraft 2 announcement was surrounded by a whole lot of WOW! They started a countdown on the Blizzard website and went to Korea in front hundreds of die hard StarCraft fans and announced the game with a CGI video (that rocked) and showed off some game play.

The Red Alert 3 announcement was made on a Command and Conquer 3 vodcast by two very annoying people. No game play footage was shown, no full motion video or CGI.

The Launch Websites

The StarCraft 2 website is a masterpiece, it really is. The design is stunning. It's a well crafted mix of Flash animation, CSS and XHTML. The background at the bottom of the site is enough to say "Hey that's neat".

The Red Alert 3 website looks to be a table-based design with a terrible use of colours, fonts, massive bold links... It looks like something a trainee could whip up in a day or two with Photoshop and Microsoft FrontPage.

The History

Blizzard has a history of great games. StarCraft, WarCraft, and Diablo - They all rock! I even played World of WarCraft for a while and I hate RPGs...

EA Games makes average games that require ridiculous system specs and have terrible online and LAN playability. The Red Alert franchise has had it's ups and downs, Red Alert - The Aftermath being the up and Yuri's Revenge being the down.

My Prediction

We will play Red Alert 3 when we are sick of playing StarCraft 2. We will walk away gloating about our Carriers and Battle cruisers while we discuss what Red Alert 2 could have been.

  1. You basically summed it up right there. In a simple language:

Blizzard wants to make sure SC 2 is gonna be a fantastic explosion that is good and fun for gamers.

EA just wants to make money.

  2. What has Bizzard done since the WoW online money making crapfest?

A game that charges money to play online?? Talk about money hungry.

If Westwood was still in action, Starcraft 2 wouldn't have a chance against Red Alert 3.

Even so, I think Red Alert 3 will surprise many people in how awesome its going to be. It already looks amazing.

Judging the game by its website is quite ignorant.

Not to mention Red Alert 3 is an awesome franchise, and traditionally, it will have REAL actors (look them up!=P)

  3. I think your right. However about a year half to 3/4ths of a year after these come out Dawn of war 2 will be coming out. Little is known about it except for its graphics (amazing but it is coming out later so yeah) and the fact that the campaign is co-op and non linear. So if people do get tired of sc2 Dawn of war 2 might take the spotlight away from red alert 3

  4. That is the sum of it all!

SC2 kicks the crap out of RA3!
No one in our area bought an original copy of RA3. One bought a pirated copy out of curiosity and lend it to other curious people.
Oh yeah they deleted the game after a day! Talk about waste of time!

Command and Conquer franchise sucked then as it sucked now! Actors hired learned their acting prowess from paper cut-outs! About you bitching on how Blizzard makes money out of WOW, I know you'd gladly play WOW if it's free!

Well all I can say is SC2 is much much anticipated! Blizzard RULES!!!

  5. I really enjoy simply reading all of your weblogs. Simply wanted to inform you that you have people like me who appreciate your work. Definitely a great post. Hats off to you! The information that you have provided is very helpful.
