Top 16 Free Windows Applications

This is my first attempt at a list. I've wanted to make this list for some time. Here is a list of my favourite free Windows applications. Unfortunately WinRAR, Windows Movie Maker and Notepad weren't eligible as they are either bundled or shareware.
  1. Firefox - The award-winning Web browser.
  2. Avast! - avast! 4 Home Edition is a full-featured antivirus package designed exclusively for home users and non-commercial use.
  3. ĀµTorrent - ĀµTorrent is a lightweight and efficient BitTorrent client for Windows with many features.
  4. PowerISO MagicDisc - MagicDisc is freeware. It is very helpful utility designed for creating and managing virtual CD drives and CD/DVD discs. For anyone who deals with CD-based programs – it is a MUST.
  5. Ultra VNC - UltraVNC is a powerful, easy to use and free software that can display the screen of another computer (via Internet or network) on your own screen. The program allows you to use your mouse and keyboard to control the other PC remotely. It means that you can work on a remote computer, as if you were sitting in front of it, right from your current location.
  6. Winamp - Winamp, the ultimate media player, allows you to manage and play audio and video files, rip and burn cds, enjoy free music, access and share your music.
  7. Picasa - Picasa is a free software download from Google that helps you: Locate and organise all the photos on your computer. Edit and add effects to your photos with a few simple clicks. Share your photos with others through email, prints and on the web: it’s fast, easy and free.
  8. PDF Creator - PDFCreator easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.
  9. FlashGet - FlashGet is a leading download manager and has the highest amount of users on the Internet. It uses MHT(Multi-server Hyper-threading Transportation) technique, supports various protocols and has excellent document management features. FlashGet is a freeware without any adware or spyware.
  10. CamStudio - CamStudio is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs).
  11. Aptana Studio- The Aptana Studio Community Edition provides a full-featured web development environment. The Community Edition represents the core pieces of the Aptana frameworks for editing, debugging, synchronization, and project management.
  12. Advanced IP Scanner - Advanced IP Scanner is a fast, robust and easy-to-use LAN scanner for Windows.
  13. DVD Shrink - DVD Shrink is software to backup DVD discs. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disc.
  14. Infra Recorder - InfraRecorder is a free CD/DVD burning solution for Microsoft Windows. It offers a wide range of powerful features; all through an easy to use application interface and Windows Explorer integration.
  15. eRecord - E-Record is a free, electronic record keeping software product. It helps small businesses (including non-profit organisations) to keep good business records and meet their taxation reporting obligations.
  16. Audacity - Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds.

    Great list, however PowerISO is actually shareware!

  3. You're right, it is shareware. I actually use MagicDisc more often than powerISO.
